2020 : Welcome Back and Games Evening!

Group 1 : 29th September 2020

Group 2 : 6th October 2020

Welcome Back!

This page to let you know what we will be doing for our first face to face session.

Welcome

Welcome!

We are going to have our first attempt at a Cubs evening at the Scout Hut following the Covid-19 lock down, within the current rules set by the Scouts nationally.

We have tried to plan as much as possible; but we will ask you to bear with us if things need to change last minute; particularly given the current concerns about increasing Covid infection rates.

We have published a separate page setting out our Covid 19 measures.

Link to our Covid 19 Plan and Procedures.

On to the fun!

Our overall plan for the next few weeks is to focus on getting all of the Cubs the Challenge Badge.

In our first meeting we will have three separate games areas which the Cubs will rotate between, so that your Cub can say that they have tried a new sport.

Each Cub will play as a single player, unless we have an even number of Cubs, in which case we may create teams of two.

The forecast for the 29th October 2020 is some light rain, so please bring wet weather gear as we will try to go ahead whatever the weather!

If you are interested about what sports we are trying, we have set out in this page a lot of information for you to explore with your cub.

We have set out at the end of this page our risk assessments.

See you soon!

Introduction

Our last game is to learn something about Pétanque.

It is like a game of bowls, but you throw the bowl rather than roll it.

Learn about Petanque

Have you ever tried Pétanque (pronounced PET ONK)?

It is a game loved by the French.

It is a game of bowls, which involves throwing the balls, rather than rolling them.

You each have some heavy balls (known in French as "Boules", pronounced BOOL).

You then take turns to throw them at a target (known as a jack, or in French cochonnet, pronounced COSH ON A).

The objective is to get a boule closer to the jack than the other player.

You are free to use your boule to knock away the boule of the other player.
